A GLIMPSE INTO THE PROCESS
In this masterclass, we will focus on the surface itself. You’ll learn how to build depth and character through layers of slip, how to create subtle variations in tone and texture, and how to work with both studio-made and wild-collected materials. We won’t be working with complex glaze recipes, because the essence of my work isn’t in glazing at all.
I sometimes use simple transparent and white glazes to enhance what already happens on the clay.
And sometimes I leave the surface unglazed. The true beauty comes from what we create before the glaze: the marks, the layering, the quiet evidence of touch.
This class is about cultivating that sensitivity, so your pieces carry a sense of warmth and something quietly ancient.
You don’t need to be advanced, but you should have some experience with the essential steps of making.
